What The Grounds Tell You About A House: 5 Things To Observe

Many people become so focused on the interior aspects of a house, they often pay far too little attention to, some of the most pertinent, relevant aspects of the overall property! What might the land, etc, tell someone about a house? How might that impact one's decision to purchase a particular property, or perhaps evaluate it more completely and thoroughly? Some believe they can address certain exterior aspects, to their likings, if the love the interior of the house, but one must look at these five things, carefully, in their evaluation process. Let the grounds, speak to you, and give you some additional, much - needed insights.
1. Pitch of the land: How does the land pitch, especially in areas closest to the house? Ideally, you should be sure, the house is not at the lower or lowest point of the property, because often, that will create challenges and difficulties, after extreme inclement weather. When the land pitches away, the tendency for having a wet basement, or a feeling of extreme humidity, inside the house, is reduced significantly. Look at the exposed portion of the foundation, and observe how much higher or lower it might be, than the land height! 2. Condition of grounds/ lawn/ gardens/ trees, etc: How one maintains their grounds is often an indication of how well they might have taken care of the house! Examine the condition of the lawn, including if there is a properly working, maintained underground sprinkler system! Are the gardens clear of weeds, and properly mulched, and maintained? Are trees in good condition? Are the branches of trees overhanging, or do they appear to be regularly trimmed and maintained? When you walk the grounds, do they appear even, or in poorer overall condition?
3. Trees trimmed?: Are the trees healthy, or do they appear to be somewhat diseased? When was the last time tree limbs were cut back, and maintained? Remember, storms occur, and precautions and planning, often preclude disasters and additional expenses.
4. Paved areas: What is the condition of the driveway? Is it rutted and uneven, or even and sealed? Is it clean and neat? How about paths, walkways, etc, including patios? Are wood decks in good condition, and properly sealed and maintained? Are concrete areas in good shape? How about areas where there might be materials, such as flagstone?
5. Curb appeal; over - growth: What's your first impression when you approach the house? Is it a positive, negative or neutral one? Do you observe many weeds, or areas of over - growth? Does it seem welcoming and attractive?
Since, for most people, purchasing their home, is one of the major financial decisions of their lives, doesn't it make sense, to do so objectively and carefully? The grounds will talk to you, and tell you quite a bit about how lovingly and well, the present owners treated and paid attention to their homes.
